Frequently Asked Questions

When will registration start?

Registration is now open.

Once you arrive on the morning of the event, there is a check-in process. Having your group registered beforehand expedites the check-in process and allows for more time in sessions.

What is the deadline for registration?

Registration deadline is Friday, November 1, 2019.

What is the cost for the conference?

All attendees pay $10 each (students and adults). If paying by credit card, there will be a $0.30 convenience/processing fee added per attendee. There is no convenience/processing fee if paying by electronic check.

How do I register my students?

I am a teacher and would like to bring a group of students. I want to be able to monitor the process so I am assured each student get registered and the fee gets paid.

All registrants pay prior to the start of the event and are sent a confirmation email. Here are registration options:

  1. Each teacher collects the money from students and completes the registration process beforehand. Note: *You will receive a confirmation email once the registration process is finished.
  2. Teachers can let the student/parent complete the registration process and make payment. Note: *Student/parent will receive a confirmation email once the registration process is finished.

** Whichever process is chosen, be sure to bring the confirmation to the check-in table.

Will I receive a confirmation?

After your registration is processed, you will receive a confirmation email. Please keep this for future reference (see above).

Who is invited?

Young women grades 6-8 are encouraged to attend. Each student participant must have one responsible adult attending with her (or at least one responsible adult per five girls).

Can my student attend the conference on her own?

Unfortunately, students may not attend alone. At least one accompanying adult per five girls is required. On the registration form the name of the responsible adult must be provided for emergency purposes. This is important because we provide a leader for each group of attendees; this leader guides attendees through each of the sessions. The accompanying adult, then, must be present in the building at all times, should an emergency arise during the conference.

What will we do?

The conference begins with check-in and then an opening welcome. There will be separate workshops for students and adults. All workshops expose attendees to hands-on activities in math and the sciences.

Will I be able to be with my student in the same sessions?

Since the sessions are uniquely designed, it is recommended that adults attend separate sessions from students. This offers the best possible experience for all.

Is there a limit on the number of girls a school may bring?

There is no limit to the number of students a school can bring, but there needs to be one responsible adult for every five girls. The only limitation is that conference capacity is 150 students. So only the first 150 student registrations are accepted.

Who can I contact if I have further questions about the event?

Contact the biomedical sciences program at BiomedicalSciences@MissouriState.edu or call 417-836-5603.

How should I dress for the event?

Since most of the time is spent in laboratories, attendees should wear closed-toed shoes.

Anything else I should know about being in a laboratory?

There is no food, drink, gum, or candy allowed in the laboratories.

What time should I be there?

Plan to arrive no later than 7:45 a.m. This allows time for registration check-in. The program begins promptly following all attendees checking in.
