The generic BSN, BSN-Completion, Nurse Educator, and DNP programs at Missouri State University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791.  The BSN program has full approval of the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

This program prepares professional practitioners who can assume leadership roles while collaborating with others in providing care to clients as individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in a variety of settings. In addition, the program serves as a foundation for graduate study in nursing.

Special opportunities and options

Day and evening classes are offered during the fall and spring semesters. Courses in the nursing major can be completed by a full-time day student in one calendar year. Students also may take the nursing courses through distance learning via interactive video from West Plains and other sires. The opportunity for clinical experience in the community where the student resides is available.

An accelerated RN to MSN option is available for outstanding students who want to complete the BSN and MSN programs in less time than it would take to complete both degrees separately. Academically outstanding students have an opportunity to join the Theta Lambda chapter of Sigma Theta Tao, the International Nursing Society. Students learn from faculty who hold master's degrees in nursing and doctoral degrees, are actively involved in nursing research, hold leadership roles in professional nursing organizations, maintain clinical skills through nursing practice and are involved in community service.

A Health Care Management minor is available in the school for students desiring an opportunity to increase their management skills.

The curriculum

Management, communication, critical thinking, and nursing interventions with clients in diverse settings. The nursing curriculum fosters an understanding of individuals and their environment, as well as a motivation for life-long learning.

The BSN graduates

Graduates of the BSN program are prepared as generalists and can assume a variety of nursing positions in acute care and community health settings. Many graduates continue to work in direct patient care activities where their additional professional knowledge and skills allow them to develop quality economical patient care delivery systems. Other graduates may choose to move into leadership positions in nursing administration, home health or public health roles.

The BSN degree can help RNs advance through clinical ladders, facilitate career mobility, and the opportunity to work in any state in the nation. With the BSN degree, RNs can obtain officer status in the nursing corps of the Armed Services. With a BSN degree from an accredited school, qualified graduates can be accepted to graduate schools in nursing leading to master's and doctoral degrees. The BSN degree also can serve as a base for career opportunities in health law, pharmaceutical sales or related health fields.
